Privacy policy
Updated October 29, 2026
Copeel exists to show you your own car. This policy explains what data the app and the website process, why, with whom, for how long, and what you can ask of us.
Who is responsible for your data
The data controller is COPEEL, a French SASU with a share capital of €1,000, registered with the Paris Trade and Companies Register under number 130 254 709, 66 avenue des Champs-Élysées, 75008 Paris, France. For any question about your data: contact@copeel.com.
This policy covers the Copeel app (iPhone, widgets, Apple Watch) and the website copeel.com. Your Tesla account and Tesla’s services are covered by Tesla’s privacy policy.
The data we process
Your account
Your email address (or the relay address provided by Sign in with Apple), an account ID, your device’s language and time zone and, if you provide them, your first name, last name, a username and a profile photo. Your password is stored in hashed form by our authentication service: we never see it.
Your Tesla and its data
- Connecting to Tesla: you authorize Copeel on Tesla’s own page; your Tesla password never passes through us. We keep, encrypted, the authorization tokens issued by Tesla, along with the list of your vehicles (VIN, model, software version, odometer).
- Vehicle data: location, driving, battery and charging, climate, tires, locks and Sentry Mode, vehicle state. From it we build your history (trips, charges, parking), your statistics and your maps; addresses are derived from locations.
- Charges billed by Tesla at Superchargers: amounts, site and dates.
- Commands you send to the car (locking, climate, charge limit…): they are only sent when you trigger them, and we keep a record of those that go through our servers.
What you add
The vehicle’s nickname and license plate, your saved addresses, your tags, the prices of your charges, your electricity plans, your road trips and your notification preferences.
Copeel Intelligence
Copeel Intelligence answers your questions using Gemini, Google’s AI, used within the European Union. You can turn it off at any time.
- Gemini receives your questions and only the data from your car needed to answer them. Places are referred to by their city or by the name of a saved address.
- Gemini never receives your name, your email, the VIN, the license plate, or any full address or GPS position, unless you write them yourself. To plan a route, the car’s location is sent to a mapping service, not to Gemini.
- Your conversations are never used to train any AI. They are kept in your account for the period you choose in the Copeel Intelligence settings, and you can delete them at any time.
What stays on your device
If you allow it, your iPhone’s location (to show where you are on the map relative to the car) and your photos (to illustrate your road trips) are used on the device and never sent to us. The Bluetooth key that controls the car nearby never leaves your iPhone or your watch.
Subscription
Payments are handled by Apple (App Store) or by Stripe (website): we never see your card details. We keep the status of your subscription (plan, dates, trial period) and, for a subscription taken on the website, your country, derived from your IP address without storing it, and the promo code used.
Imports and exports
An imported history (Tessie, TeslaFi, TeslaMate or Copeel) is added to your account, then the file is deleted; TeslaFi credentials, if you use them, serve only once and are never stored. Your exports and activity reports remain available for 7 days.
Notifications, statistics and crashes
- Notifications: we keep your devices’ notification tokens to alert you (charging complete, car left unlocked…) and to update widgets and Live Activities.
- Usage statistics: the app sends pseudonymous signals about how its screens and features are used, with no name, email, VIN or location. There is no advertising identifier and no cross-app tracking.
- Crash reports: when the app crashes, a technical report is sent to Google (Firebase Crashlytics), with no account ID or vehicle data. You can turn them off in Profile › Privacy & Security.
The website
The contact form (name, email, message), the notification list (email, language, versions you’re interested in, after confirmation by email) and the account and subscription pages, which use the same account as the app. For security, our host keeps connection logs (IP address, browser), and the IP address and email entered in the forms are kept for at most 24 hours to prevent abuse.
Why we process it, and on what legal basis
| Purpose | Legal basis (GDPR, Art. 6) |
|---|---|
| Providing Copeel: account, Tesla connection, history, statistics, commands, Copeel Intelligence, notifications, imports and exports, subscription, replies to your messages | performance of the contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) |
| Letting you know when a new version is available | consent (Art. 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw at any time |
| Fixing crashes and understanding how the app is used | legitimate interest in running and improving Copeel (Art. 6(1)(f)) |
| Securing the service and preventing abuse | legitimate interest in security (Art. 6(1)(f)) |
| Keeping our accounts | legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)) |
We never use your data for advertising and we never sell it.
Who receives your data
Your data is processed only by the Copeel team, whose access is limited to support and security, and by service providers grouped below by role. They act solely on our behalf, except Tesla, Apple and Stripe, which are responsible for their own services. The detailed list of our providers is available on request.

| Tesla | vehicle data and relaying commands | under Tesla’s policy |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple, App Store, notifications, maps and weather | under Apple’s policy |

We only disclose data to anyone else when the law requires it.
Transfers outside the European Union
When data leaves the European Economic Area, we rely on the adequacy decision for the EU–US Data Privacy Framework for certified providers, and on the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses in other cases.
How long we keep your data
- Account, history and what you add: as long as your account exists. Raw vehicle data is kept for 7 days, the time needed to build your history.
- Copeel Intelligence conversations: for the period you choose (indefinitely by default).
- Tesla tokens: until you unlink the vehicle, delete your account or revoke access in your Tesla account.
- Technical data (notification tokens, crash reports, logs): at most 9 months after last use.
- Encrypted backups: at most 12 months, only to restore the service; deletions are applied again after a restore.
- Messages, notification list: at most 12 months. Billing for subscriptions taken on the website: 10 years, as accounting law requires.
When you delete your account, access is cut off immediately and everything attached to it is erased from our systems within 30 days. An App Store subscription must be canceled by you in your Apple account settings.
Security
Connections are encrypted, so are Tesla tokens and backups, and each account can only access its own data. The app can be locked with Face ID, Touch ID or Optic ID.
Your rights
At any time, you can access your data, correct it, erase it, restrict its processing, object to processing based on our legitimate interest, receive it in a portable format, withdraw your consent and set instructions for what happens to it after your death. In the app, Profile › Privacy & Security lets you export your data and delete your account.
For anything else, write to contact@copeel.com from your account’s address; we reply within one month. You can also lodge a complaint with the CNIL (cnil.fr) or with the supervisory authority of your country.
Cookies
copeel.com uses no advertising or audience measurement cookies. It only keeps in your browser what it needs to work: your language, your session if you sign in, and the plan you chose while you complete payment.
Children
Copeel is not intended for children under 15. If you believe a child has created an account, write to us and we will delete it.
Changes
We update this page as Copeel evolves and change the date at the top. For significant changes, we let you know in the app or by email.
